Wahoo!! Today I am so proud to share with you what Anna has been working so diligently on. She has put hours and hours of time into laying the foundation for this and bringing her vision to life. And it is absolutely beautiful. Anna is joining us on the blog this morning to tell us more about what she has been up to. I can’t wait for you to see the sampling of images…they truly speak for themselves.

Anna, we’ve been talking about this for weeks. . . Let us in on what is coming…
I am so excited. I’ve been keeping this a secret for months now and I’m finally ready to share it with everyone. We are officially launching a new branch of photography this Saturday called CHAR Co. MINI. This will be an arm of CHAR Co dedicated exclusively to capturing mini people.

What was your initial inspiration for CHAR Co MINI?
My son was born about a year and a half ago and quickly became the constant subject of my photos. When he was about a year old, I started looking through all the pictures to find something I would want to print in a large format for my wall. In the multitude of pictures I had taken, there wasn’t a single picture that I wanted to frame. They were beautiful images but they seemed too busy to me and I knew they would distract from my minimal décor. I finally landed on the idea of shooting him on a simple, clean background and letting his personality bring life to the picture. Initially, my idea was just to create art for my own walls but I soon realized that if others could catch my vision, they might want the same thing.

Speaking of your vision, can you explain it further?
My vision for CHAR Co MINI is made up on three components. The first is simplicity. I am a firm believer that less really is more.  The MINI studio is a beautiful natural light studio with simple backgrounds that will provide the foundation for a portrait that will allow what is really important to be the star of the show. Secondly, I believe in letting a child’s personality shine. Natural movement and intuitive expression are hallmarks of the MINI style and the pictures I love most are the ones that capture children being who they truly are. Finally, I believe in the importance of great style. I love children’s fashion and believe that it can truly transform an otherwise ordinary picture into a true work of art. The end result is a timeless piece of art featuring your own sweet MINI.
Wall art for homes is a key part of your vision for the MINI. Can you tell us more about this?
My original vision for my home was to have oversized beautiful works of art in different rooms. I love the visual impact of a large framed print and was looking for the perfect modern picture for my home. At the same time, I really wanted to be able to showcase my little boy on my walls but was afraid that it wouldn’t have the look I wanted. I was torn between art and portraits and finally realized that they could be one and the same. My goal in every session is to create more than just beautiful portraits. I want to create works of art worthy of being hung in every room of the house – preferably in exceptionally large sizes. What is it that you love about photographing children?
While there can be challenges and unpredictability when working with mini people, I love bringing out a child’s natural spirit of fun, laughter and play. These are the moments truly worthy of photographing and the innocence and joy of childhood make for some of the most beautiful photographs I have ever seen.
