CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE AT THE STUDIO.
Yes! December 16th from 5pm to 9pm.
113 East Main Avenue, Myerstown PA 17067.
This past summer I made a decision. It kinda felt big. There is a huge, old sewing factory in my tiny town. I photographed outside it many times. In fact, I even had the owner’s permission to photograph inside it. And I did. I admired the empty building. Thought how perfect one of the rooms would be for a studio. Looked at the cardboard sign…”For Lease’. And sighed. If only. Never even considering…that maybe it did not have to be an ‘if only’ thought. Isn’t it funny how we don’t even consider something…for no other reason that we just never considered it? Don’t even give it a chance. Afraid to think outside the box. End of story. But then one day it hit me. I know nothing about this option….and I already had decided it wasn’t an option. Maybe, maybe I should look into it. SO we did. It felt like God had it all ready to go. As soon as we moved forward, the pieces fell in place. I moved in in June. It has been one the best decisions. It has allowed me to have help with packaging and designing. Thank-you Ann and Kelsey! It has given me a place to meet clients. It is my quiet, creative zone. It has been good.
So, come on in…let me show you around.
LOTS of natural light. When it is sunny outside, we get a tan as we work. Just kidding…although it feels like it sometimes. I love this big HUGE seven foot mirror Roofus made for me. Chuckle. The Christmas tree is Target. Target comes through again.
All the chairs are original to the sewing factory. There were stacks and stacks of them. I was able to take a few for my space.
My little sister Amber made these pillow covers for me. She made the trip with me to IKEA when I was getting a few supplies I needed for the studio. We were not able to find pillow covers we loved. But we did find cool fabric. She volunteered to sew covers for me. She’s awesome. I will always think of Amber when I see my pillows. The white couch? Had it for years. In fact, I used it a LOT the first year in business. It was drug onto many fields and piled with families. (: Since then, it has sat in our basement. It was covered with mud stains, finger prints, my boys thought it was a great trampoline, and to top it off, Adler likes to color. On lots of things. This once white couch was proudly wearing green crayon. So we rented a shampooer, used lots of hot water and soap, scrubbed, set it out in the hot sun to dry…and it was good to go.
This white table is original to the factory also…works great to store sample products.
Love my desk. This also is original to the sewing factory…it was a work table. My friend, Angel(:, spotted this table buried in a back room and told me…this is your desk. As always…I looked at her like….really?!! And then the idea grew on me. And now I love it. Scrubbed it down with hot water, covered the rough top with glass, and got IKEA baskets to fit on the shelf. Whenever I am in the studio, most times somebody else it there working with me. They pull up a stool to the other end and work on the other computer. Works way more perfect than I could have tried to plan.
Something about this quote gets me. ‘Life is Art…the way you drink your tea…” Life is art…at least, if we let it be it is. And a little thrift store find that holds ‘stuff’ on my desk.
Folks love collage gallery wraps.
Packaging is so fun. Like the icing on the cake.
Hope you enjoyed this little tour of my tiny space. This big old sewing factory is not empty any more. A little farmers market, a gym, dance studio, antique shops, and a flea market all live here also.
