How I organize my makeup…

It all started about a year ago when I read an article about how your makeup bag contains so many germs and bacteria. I can’t remember where I read this, but, after I did I was on a mission to clean and organize all the things that I put on my face on a day to day basis. I started with the idea of simplifying. I went through my makeup and threw away a ton of makeup that I never used and that was probably too old to use anyway. When I finished that first step I noticed that I was left with a beautiful assortment of makeup. I, the stylist that I am, wanted to display this beautiful arrangement in some sort of way. I have noticed too, with my type of personality, if I don’t keep things visually appealing I don’t tend to enjoy whatever it may be. My closet room for example, is one of the most important rooms in my house and I try and make is really pretty. That is a whole other topic!
I came up with the idea to make some sort of box that I could tote around easily and that would work nicely to organize and display my makeup in a lovely way. So, I went to my husband with this idea. I am blessed with a husband that I can communicate and collaborate a vision to and he totally can whip something up. He used some old barn wood that we had left over from our dinning room table and I used some pieces of leather that I recycled  for the outside straps and that’s it. The end result is perfect. It organizes, simplifies, displays, and it has straps that help when I need to move it around. Having my makeup displayed helps me to remember to clean my makeup brushes and the containers regularly. Because everything is out in the open for me to always see I can’t get away with just throwing things in the box. It stays clean and organized. My makeup routine is always easy and peaceful because of my little organized makeup box!

ORGANIZING TIPS:

Simplify… simplify.
Get rid of things you don’t use. If you haven’t used it in a year, throw it out!
Categorize your products in specific sections (sometimes putting things together with the same color visually helps me).
Display your products in a way that is appealing to you personally.
Multi-function organizers make things easy to swap when you need a change ( this box could be used for so many other things… art supplies, kitchen utensils, etc…).
Stay on top of it. Everyday make sure you tidy things up!
