It is Friday! I absolutely love summer Fridays…even is if there is nothing planned, they still feel festive and full of anticipation. In fact, summer weekends that are wide open feel just as lovely as a planned adventure. Hot sun and time spent outdoors make me happy. Today Grace is chatting a bit about summer basics. You hate buying things and hardly ever wearing them as much as me? Grace has some thoughts on how to avoid this and how to be intentional about investing into good pieces. She will take it from here…
GRACE’S SUMMER BASICS
My summer basics are basically all black, white, jean, and soft grey. I love wearing white and cream in the summer. It shows off your summer glow and it is light and cool. I also love wearing soft fabrics like lace and sheer in the warmer months. I must say, lately I have been really drawn to simple cotton dresses. They are easy to wear and you don’t have to think too hard about what you are wearing. I love feeling effortless and comfortable in the summer. Dresses are also great for transitioning from day to evening looks with just switching your shoe.
My basics have become my basics because I found that all of my summer outfits start with them. Basics are the foundation of most of my outfits. I don’t stray too far away from them unless I am getting really dressed up. I like having a handful of go-to pieces each season that make getting dressed easy and effortless. I have found for my wardrobe that basics like a white tee can work all year round.
How I get to the place where I have a good foundation of basics, is to start right before the season by being intentional about knowing what I want to wear and looking up inspiration. I look through what I am liking and try to buy a couple key pieces that I know will add to my basics. ( Basics, in my dictionary, is wearing all the time pieces!)
This summer I knew I wanted to wear a lot of simple pieces and flirty dresses. That is what I was intentional about purchasing. I don’t spend a ton of money each season, but I do like to get a couple great pieces that I love wearing. I also try to buy things that can easily be worn throughout the year.
Some of my tips for summer basics:
Be intentional with what you want your look to be.
Don’t change your whole look for each season, try to have pieces that flow nicely year round.
Only buy a couple things to add to your foundation of basics.
If it is a trendy piece make sure you know you will wear it a lot before purchasing.
Try and purchase build-able pieces.
Find what your color palette is.
Quality is way better than quantity in my book!
