2018 is here and we know there are boundless opportunities waiting for us.  2018 is a clean slate, a fresh start – essentially a time for new beginnings…ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

So let’s explore ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE from a different angle, what if we embraced the reality that in order to accomplish our dreams or business goals, we must first embrace the TENSION that comes with implementing change.

The CHAR co that exists today was birthed out of that tension. We recognized the cultural change – that what worked in the past, in the photography business, no longer worked. (Keep in mind this can be applied to ALL industries).

Suddenly we were competing on price instead of quality or value. Having a gorgeous photography product did not guarantee every weekend booked with weddings or events. Customers were looking for an experience – to feel heard, look beautiful, be cared for and catered too. So we added hair and makeup and styling services, and we developed an intentional experience so that each client felt special, heard and pampered.

As our experience with developing a successful business increased, we felt the tension to grow and expand – adding to our visual/photography offerings with brand consulting, creative direction, design and more. We developed a brand story service, woke up for weeks and months at 5 a.m. – and added new team members who had a deeper breadth of experience in different areas or industries. We wrestled with our own positioning in this competitive industry and eventually identified where we could best serve.

By no means have we perfected managing tension. Yet it is important to recognize that without tension there is no growth. Tension births wisdom, confidence, unity and courage. It is uncomfortable and humbling yet when you work through it – the rewards are exhilarating.

As we begin 2018, let’s pledge to acknowledge the tension in our business. Identify it, study it and take actionable steps to embrace and grow from it.
