OUR GARDENS

Gardening…something about it. It is therapeutic. Satisfying. Fulfilling. So enjoyable. Maybe it is the life growing. Or the pretty colors and textures. Green houses brimming with colors and scent. A potted herb on our kitchen window. A garden with neat rows of lettuce and onions. Green grass, that blooming tree, and maybe that little fern in the corner of the office. Our studio is full of green…today we share just a little view into the gardens we have in our homes.

When I was growing up, I had a 300 acre garden to sink my bare feet into and watch the strawberries blossom, the sugar peas ripen, the corn grow knee high by the fourth of July, and the peaches turn their perfect hue. Today, this is my little garden–herbs in pots. One day soon, I hope to have a larger plot of earth to tend, but regardless of where I live, I need to have some connection to the earth and ground and dirt that has been so much a part of shaping me.

2. Andrea
The one and only thing that I garden every year is tomatoes! We have a bunch of plants and end up with hundreds of tomatoes for salads and salsa. I just love the taste of garden tomatoes.

3. Kathleen
While most days I am content to get my weekly produce from a local farm, I always love growing a few vegetables and lots of herbs every summer. This year, thanks to our apartment balcony’s lack of direct sunlight, I am pretty limited, but I still managed to find a few shade-loving flowers to make my back porch come alive. I even grabbed one herb despite my helpful greenhouse lady’s warnings that it won’t grow. I just couldn’t help myself. Nothing beats fresh herbs. So we will see if it survives. You may find me carting it around every once in a while in search of a sunny spot.

4. Anna
This is my very first houseplant. It was recently given to me for Mother’s Day by a good friend of mine. My plan is to try my hand at keeping it alive and if I succeed, move on to more. I have my eye on a fig leaf tree, a snake plant, several succulents and a string-of-pearls.

5. Char
When we first moved in, our house had nothing pretty and green. That first year, we planted hundreds of plants and over thirty trees. Every spring I love seeing the plants come to life. Hostas are one of my favorites. Always have been and always will. I love the huge silver green leaves of this variety. This bed is under a huge Maple and next to the creek. It is packed full of Hosta and is where our hammock always goes. It is one of my favorite spots in our backyard.

6. Grace
This spring has been so fun living in our new home and guessing what all the plants and flowers are as they spring from the ground. Beyond the mysterious garden that we have from the previous owners of our home, I always enjoy buying some plants and putting them in cute pots . My small potted garden consist of herbs, succulents, grasses, and my two favorites; a lemon tree, and a small little olive tree. I really enjoy going outside in the morning and drinking my coffee next to all my lovely plants. They make me so happy!
