One of her projects has been our Pinterest board. It started with research and now she is executing what she has learned on our boards. Today she is telling us a bit about what she has learned….here is Hailey.

What were our lives like before Pinterest?! Whether we are styling an upcoming photo shoot or decorating our space, Pinterest is used in our studio all the time.

I’m assuming that most of us Pinterest users repin beautiful images and links to new blog posts for our own personal use. But Pinterest is actually a great way to communicate your brand and grow your business by inspiring others with YOUR images and content! Who knew!?

So in case you are not just looking for inspiration, but to inspire others, here are a few simple tips that will help Pinterest users see what you are pinning:

1. Add the “Pin it” button to images on your website or blog. This allows people to pin content right off of your page!

2. Try pinning vertical images (your own and others!). They are easier to see and stand out among all of the visual commotion Pinterest can create.

3.Develop cohesive boards with descriptive and specific names. Put yourself in the pinners shoes. If they were looking for inspiration, what would they search to find your boards?

4. Title your pins! This will help your audience find what you are pinning.

5. Do your research! Check out successful Pinterest boards in your industry. Are you a blogger, photographer, designer – all three? How are these people naming their boards and pins?

6. Communicate your brand through Pinterest by creating boards that represent who you are as an artist, creative, or business owner. If you are a photographer, it’s okay to have boards that are not directly related to photography, but describe the emotion and feeling behind your brand.

7. People want to see what inspires you or your business. This means that you don’t have to only pin images from your website or blog. Pinning your own images is VERY important – but finding pins that that communicate your brand  is also a great idea!

8. Just like other social media platforms, reaching out to your audience can help grow your following. Try commenting on other people’s pins and they might just follow you back or check out your website :)

9. Convert your account to a business account. This will give you access to analytics about your profile and your audience.

10. Most importantly – pin beautiful images! Pinterest is all about visual communication, so it is important that your images stand out!
