OUR JOB…AS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS…

Our goal, in all we do, is to do it well. With excellence. Above and beyond. Top notch. With this in mind…how does this translate into wedding photography? We adore pretty, soft photos with luminous light. We strive to take what is there and capture the beauty of it. And the details. We love details. Details of the bride’s dress, the flowers in the bouquets, the colors that create the wedding day palette. Quality images is of utmost importance. Technically correct images are a must. We will ‘get the shots’. The ring photo, the bride with her father walking down the aisle, the first dance…all of the ‘must get’ shots. These all happen only once…capturing these WELL is our job.

But honestly, we can do all of the above and do it well…and that is not doing our job in completion. To do our job well, we need to take it a step beyond the tangibles.

Here is where I, as the photographer, need to step out of the ‘photographer’ role and not ‘hide behind the camera’. Instead, I need to pull out my intuition, good will, and genuine appreciation of others and connect on a personal level. As wedding photographers, to do our job well, we need to take it a step beyond pretty photos. It goes beyond the technicalities of shooting a good image and staging a good pose and making sure no shots are missed. Our job as wedding photographers is to capture the ‘HEART and SOUL’ of a wedding day. The energy that was present, the vibe of the crowd, the emotions of the bride and groom. Poses that feel…not very much like poses. Expressions that are not forced, but real. Lots of candid photos. Capturing not just what the day looked like, but what it ‘FELT’ like.  Our goal is for the images to truly tell the story, beyond the tangibles, of the wedding day…no words needed. As wedding photographers, we strive to understand the bride and groom…truly WHO they are. What is important to them about their day? When they think and plan for their day, what does it look like in their dreams? What are their personalities? When we understand this as photographers, then I believe it is possible for us to photograph in a way that reflects this. Take away the ‘HEART and SOUL’ of wedding day photos? And you have just another set of wedding photos. Add in the HEART and SOUL…you have something that feels alive and vibrant and real.

And THAT, I believe, is our job as wedding photographers.:-)

The heart and soul, after all, is truly the core of life.

And you do this so well! It’s the one thing that sets you apart from other photographers! Blessings!
